What causes ED?
Several issues can contribute to erectile dysfunction.
The first, Vaculogenic ED, is very common and treatable. As we get older our blood vessels and capillaries become clogged with plaque that can cause the capillaries to completely collapse, resulting in blockage of the vessels necessary to achieve an erection. Furthermore, our vessels shrink as we age. This combination of plaque build-up and shrinking blood vessels restricts blood flow to the penis, making it difficult to get and maintain an erection.
The second and more serious cause of erectile dysfunction involves nerve damage that can have irreparable and untreatable consequences. Nerves can be damaged by diabetes, multiple sclerosis, prostate surgery or damage to the spinal cord. Speak to a member of the True Freedom Therapy team about possible treatment options.
What can we do when ED symptoms occur?
Typically, when treating erectile dysfunction, the medical community has relied on symptomatic treatments that aimed to treat the symptoms of erectile dysfunction, but not the causes. These treatments consist of pills, injections, vacuum erection devices, mechanical constriction devices, urethral pellets, and penile prosthesis. True Freedom Therapy treats the cause of the disease, a method of treatment known as a Disease Modification Strategy. Rather than simply treating the symptoms, we use low-intensity sound waves, or soft waves, to reverse the condition and heal the affected area.
What is acoustical sound wave therapy and how does it work?
Acoustical sound wave therapy was first introduced in the 1980s and has been used to treat kidney stones, gallstones, heart problems, fractures, and joint inflammation. The first application in the United States was used during a lithotripsy, a medical procedure that treats certain types of kidney, gallbladder, or liver stones. These sound waves that were used to break up kidney stones were concentrated high-intensity waves.
Twelve (12) years ago, Germans medical researchers began to use low-intensity waves with a broader scope to treat ED. These low-intensity sound waves reduce plaque buildup in the vessels and capillaries. Furthermore, they rejuvenate the same vessels, capillaries, and tissue. In fact, the treatment can increase the vessels three to four-fold, resulting in larger vessels with less plaque, and returning blood flow to diseased areas of the body.
This is caused by shock wave energy activating signaling pathways. The shock waves “fool” the body into believing that there has been trauma to the area, causing the body to transmit stem cells to the treated region. These stem cells are effectively “healing cells” that begin to reverse disease and cause rejuvenation of the tissue.
What can I expect during my treatment?
After arriving at our medical office, our patient evaluator will determine what treatment schedule would be best for the patient. Once scheduled for a treatment, our certified technician will use the soft wave applicator to apply SoftWave® shock waves to the penis, testicles, scrotum, and perineum, allowing for penetration into the prostate.
The treatment is painless and takes less than 20 minutes.
Depending on the severity of the ED, between two and six treatments may be given over a six week period, once a week. After the treatment, the body produces and drives stem cells into the affected areas for eight (8) to ten (10) more weeks.
Some patients start feeling and seeing a noticeable difference after only a couple of treatments.
